What is a hearing Aid

Hearing aid is a device which amplifies the sound and makes the information accessible to the user. Extensive research demonstrates the treatment with modern digital hearing aids brings measurable improvement in social, emotional, psychological and physical well being, for both parents and their family members. Untreated hearing loss can have many negative consequences. Those who struggle with hearing loss may be subject to overt discrimination and be excluded from gatherings, conversations and meetings. The inability to communicate effectively can ultimately lead to frustration, anxiety, social isolation and depression.

The good news is that with the treatment, those suffering even mild hearing loss can gain

  1. Greater effectiveness on the job and better earning power.
  2. More participation in group activities like place of worship services.
  3. Improved inter personal relationship, greater intimacy and better sense of control in professional, social and family gatherings.
  4. For school age children improved performance in school and better development of language skills.

Therefore use of hearing aid enables a child to utilize his or her remaining hearing ability in order to optimize the perception of sound. Hearing aids provide amplification and special sound processing to help the child achieve an optimum sound which are found in a normal environment.

Now modern technological facilities and invisible digital hearing aids produce much better results.

Hearing aids are of many types e.g.

  1. Behind The Ear (BTE)
  2. In The Canal (ITC)
  3. Completely In The Canal (CIC)

Why digital

The previous generation of hearing aid utilized amplification systems based on analogue electronic technology. These hearing aids simply took the sound and noises that they “heard” and amplified them. This meant amplifying unwanted signals too. It was possible to apply some limiting factors to the output sound levels of these hearing aids but in general, although they were an excellent solution for the patients, the opportunity to use Digital Signal Processing was a huge breakthrough.

Digital Signal Processing allows to do just that “process” the signals data received by the hearing aids. This means that we can manipulate the incoming sound and transform it into what the user feels most comfortable with. We can reduce unwanted noises and concentrate on providing the user with clearer speech signal.
